 statement

I have been doing 2-D art from since I was an eight year old. I would watch my dad to his drawings in his free time. He was a naturally talented drawer and taught me everything he knew. In high school, I took every art class that was offered which were few but still I tried to learn what I could. This is when I became immersed in the world of comic books and graphic novels at that time, which made me interested in the world of beyond ours and imaginative narratives that are larger than life.

My current works are based on historical paintings or images that fuse with the concept of mythos. I feel there is a strong connection between the myth of past and the dominant current stories what we encounter everyday through mass media and pop culture. Obviously nothing is created in a vacuum and writers draw from ancient sources like the Iliad or Beowulf. I like to shine a light on how a story can become a myth or legend once enough time has passed as if a historical fact might as well be a story because of how disconnected we are with the moment in history when it occurred. There is also the aspect of myth that is created by the historical figure him/herself in order to curate a perception of self. It was not uncommon for rulers to declare themselves gods or with having outrageous stories connected with their origins. By fusing and juxtaposing what we consider a historical fact to what we consider an apocryphal myth. I am attempting to visually blur the boundaries between the two.
